Great news! FOLKC is very pleased to be selected as a recipient of a Greater Western Water grant, one that will bring State and Local Government, Industry and the community together to contribute to the development of a cooler, greener, cleaner West.
Greater Western Water, by means of its Thriving Communities Grant, has joined up with Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek (FOLKC) to plant out a Brooklyn site on the Kororoit Creek with the aim of creating an Urban Forest. When grown, the forest will filter out some of the dust emanating from the Brimbank Industrial Precinct and prevent it from entering the Brooklyn residential community, as well as further enhancing the Kororoit Creek environmental corridor.

All courtesy of the GWW grant, the planting and celebration are to take place on a Sunday in May, at which time the community will be invited to come along and assist. Entertainment will be courtesy of Edvardo and his accordion—during the planting and the celebration afterwards—and there will be a free BBQ, a tea and coffee truck, soft drinks, and lollies for the children.
This new Urban Forest will be located on the site of the first Brooklyn state run primary school, which opened on 13 January 1882 and closed on 31 July 1919. To commemorate this historic event, and, through the support of Greater Western Water, FOLKC will be placing a plaque on a picnic table setting in the new park, which will eventually link to the Kororoit Creek Shared Trail to the Bay, to Caroline Springs, Werribee, and the entire Metropolitan Shared Trail Network.
