Thanks to support from the West Gate Neighbourhood Fund and Hobsons Bay City Council, a much-loved reserve in the inner west has been transformed into a regional park which will help bring the local community together.
Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek was successful in being awarded a Partnerships grant through the West Gate Neighbourhood Fund to upgrade the GJ Hosken Reserve in Altona North
The much-needed upgrade includes a multi-use court with a basketball hoop, a barbeque and two new shelters near the playground.A section of the western part of the reserve will be fenced to create an off-lead dog precinct, with new seating and bins.
The opening was a great success with more than 400 community members attending and consuming 500 sausages, 150 veggie burgers and the lamb kabobs ex the spit and drinking numerous cups of coffee, all due to the organisations backing my group.
The wonderful event on Sunday was made possible by many organisations including Melbourne Water, Toyota, Planet Ark, Greater Western Water, Nestle, Altona Lions, Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust, Hobsons Bay Wetland Centre, and a big shout out to Cedar Meats and the fijians who contributed.
The reserve and the nearby Kororoit Creek trail are already very popular amongst families and residents, who enjoy the many walking paths and unique statues created by local artist Geoffrey Ricardo.
